Capt. Shawn Bailey, a native of San Antonio, Texas, graduated from Texas A&M University at Galveston in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology. He was designated a naval aviator in June 1997.
Captain Bailey’s operational assignments include two back-to-back tours with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron (HC) 5 on the island of Guam, serving aboard USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3), USNS Niagara Falls (T-AFS 3), and USNS Flint (T-AE 32) in support of Operations Southern Watch, Desert Fox, Warden, Stabilize, and Iraqi Freedom. He is a plank owner of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 23, deploying as the detachment office-in-charge aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Sea Dragon, and serving as the squadron training officer and operations officer. He served as the air boss aboard USS Boxer (LHD 4) and deployed in support of U.S. 3rd Fleet (C3F), U.S. 5th Fleet (C5F), and U.S. 7th Fleet (C7F) operations and national tasking in the U.S. Pacific Command and Central Command area of responsibilities.
Capt. Bailey’s shore assignments include instructor duty at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in Fallon, Nevada, as a Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor (SWTI) and the SWTI Program Manager providing graduate level flight training for all Navy H-60 communities. He is a graduate of the United States Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, with a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.
Capt. Bailey has commanded Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 28, in support of U.S. 2nd Fleet (C2F), U.S. 4th Fleet (C4F), C5F and U.S. 6th Fleet (C5F) area of operations; HSC-3, the MH-60S, HH-60H, MQ-8 Fleet Replacement Squadron; and HSC-22 in support of C2F, C4F, and C6F operations. Most recently he commanded Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic.
Capt. Bailey reported as the executive officer, Tactical Training Group Atlantic in January 2021, and assumed command in May 2021.
Capt. Bailey has accumulated more than 3600 flight hours in the HH-46D, MH-60S, SH-60F, HH-60H, MH-53E, and MQ-8B helicopters. His decorations include various personal, unit, campaign and service awards.
